Gerdau Corsa used a sustainable construction system with processed black slag to improve access to the industrial zone in Sahagún, Hidalgo, Mexico.
As part of the industrial development, 10.2 thousand tons of processed black slag were used as base and sub-base across 920 meters of roadway, leveraging steel coproducts to promote responsible development.
Black slag from electric arc furnaces is a by-product of steelmaking, whose primary raw material is scrap metal. Once processed, it becomes black steel aggregate, used in the construction industry primarily for road bases and surfaces.
The Latin American steel industry continues to reaffirm its commitment to innovation and the circular economy.
