Novacero’s commitment to zero waste

Novacero, Ecuador’s leading sustainable steel manufacturer, recycles 99% of the waste generated in its operations, and reaffirms its commitment to zero waste.  This has a positive impact on the environmental, social and economic environment of the country, and is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Together with its strategic ally Novared, a Certified B company dedicated to the collection of metal waste, they have collected more than 2.4 million tons of scrap metal and collaborate with more than 60 micro recycling companies, 90 recycling points and 900 small warehouses nationwide. This model benefits more than 12,000 people in the country.

Of its three plants nationwide, the one located in Lasso, Cotopaxi province, is responsible for recycling all the scrap collected and transforming it into new steel products, such as micro-alloyed rebar, recognized in Ecuador and abroad thanks to its advanced technology that makes it seismic-resistant. This approach contributes to the circular economy, reduces the carbon footprint and cleans the planet of metal waste, helping to build a more sustainable future.

In its link with the community, Novacero launched the campaign ‘Scrap is not trash’, to raise awareness among citizens and industry players with informative content on the value of metal waste, promoting its transformation and reuse within a circular economy model.

“For us, scrap is not trash, but rather a culture of sustainability to build a better world,” said Ramiro Garzón, General Manager of Novacero.
