The world steel association, worldsteel, which represents more than 85% of global steel production, announced the companies distinguished as Steel Sustainability Champions 2024. In this edition, four Alacero member companies – AZA Steel, ArcelorMittal, Tenaris and Ternium – were recognized for their commitment to sustainability and their leadership in implementing responsible practices within the sector.
Since the beginning of the program in 2018, ArcelorMittal, Ternium and Tenaris have been recognized uninterruptedly, consolidating their commitment and innovation for sustainable development. This year, in addition, Aceros AZA, became the first Chilean company to receive this distinction. A milestone that positions the Chilean steel industry on the international scene as an example of good practices and environmental commitment.
Of the fourteen companies awarded worldwide in this edition, four belong to Latin America, a fact that highlights the growing relevance of the region in the global sustainability agenda.
Worldsteel’s Steel Sustainability Champions program was created to promote and recognize the industry’s commitment and actions to move towards more sustainable production, setting more ambitious standards and encouraging continuous improvement in environmental, social and governance issues.
This distinction reflects the fundamental role played by the Latin American steel industry in the energy transition. It is also a recognition that encourages us to continue building a more sustainable future.
