Annual Meeting of the Environmental Policy Committee (COPAM), Technology andEnvironmental Control Committee (COTEC), and Health and Safety Committee

From May 20 to 22, the meeting of the Environmental Policy Committee (COPAM), the Technology and Environmental Control Committee (COTEC), and the Health and Safety Committee (COSSEG) of Alacero was held, along with representatives from member companies, with the aim of exchanging experiences, challenges, and visions on these topics for the Latin American steel industry.

The meeting took place in the city of Fortaleza, Brazil, and over three days, crucial sector topics were addressed to advance towards safer, more sustainable, and environmentally and socially responsible processes. The debates included contributions from ArcelorMittal, Metaldom / Diaco, Instituto Aço Brasil, Aceros AZA, Gerdau, and also featured the presence of guests such as 3M, World Steel Dynamics, MPA Trade Law, SESI/CE, AECIPP, and ZPE Ceará.

During the second day, a technical visit was conducted to the ArcelorMittal Pecém plant, host of the meeting, which opened its doors to share its industrial processes and sustainability initiatives.

The agenda also included spaces for dialogue and collaboration aimed at building a regional position for the sector for COP30 and defining common principles, commitments, and strategic guidelines for health and safety in the steel industry in Latin America. Ezequiel Tavernelli,

 executive director of Alacero, highlighted the commitment of companies to strengthening the sector and the social transformation of communities. Additionally, he emphasized the need for a joint strategy to tackle unfair imports and defend the strategic role of the steel industry in the development of Latin American societies.
