Novacero, a leading company in innovation and sustainable steel solutions, has reached a
new milestone by obtaining the international ISO 50001:2018 certification for its Energy
Management System (EnMS), becoming one of the first industries in Ecuador to implement
this standard nationwide. This recognition validates over a decade of commitment to energy
efficiency and reaffirms its leadership as a key player in the sector´s sustainability.
ISO 50001 enables organizations to establish the systems and processes needed to
continually improve their energy performance, including efficiency, use, and consumption.
For 13 years, Novacero has developed an energy strategy aligned with the highest
standards. In 2013, it implemented a system compliant with ISO 50001 at its Lasso plant,
becoming one of the first companies to join the Energy Efficiency Program (PEC) promoted
by the National Government. As a result, it earned the “Green Points” recognition for its
clean production practices and became the first steel company to be certified as a “National
Eco-efficient Company.”
In 2024, the company took it a step further by implementing this standard across its three
industrial plants — Quito, Guayaquil, and Lasso — reaffirming that energy efficiency is a key
tool for the country's productive and environmental transformation.
Thanks to the implementation of the EnMS and the technical and human efforts of its teams,
Novacero achieved significant reductions in electricity and fuel consumption during the
second half of 2024.
This international recognition validates the steel industry´s efforts and commitment to energy
efficiency and sustainability.
